THE IMPLEMENTATION OF COOPERATIVE LEARNING METHOD IN TEACHING ENGLISH AT SMP NEGERI 3 PURWOKERTO

This research investigated the implementation of cooperative learning method in
teaching English at SMP Negeri 3 Purwokerto in the academic year 2024/2025. The
study aim to describe how the cooperative learning approach is applied by the
teacher. This study employed qualitative research. The data were collected through
a semi-unstructured interview with one English teacher and documentation. The
data analysis technique followed Miles and Huberman’s model, consisting of data
reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification. The findings revealed
that the teacher implemented cooperative learning strategies through Jigsaw and
Team-Based Projects. These methods fostered heterogeneous group formation,
student collaboration, and active engagement. Students demonstrated improved
understanding and motivation, especially when rewards such as extra points were
provided. The integration of technology such as laptops and projectors further
enhanced the learning environment.
